First guitar at the age of 13. Early musical influences were The Byrds and Rolling Stones and a few tears/years later, James Taylor and Cat Stevens. Formed a country rock band called Poker Face in the mid 1970s which performed regularly in New Jersey for 10 years. Currently play folk and classic rock from that era for more relaxed venues such as Wineries, private parties and Senior Center locations.
Self taught, I am a strummer and flat picker (with an occassional 'whistle' thrown in). I can't read music so all my songs (around 200) through years of honing have been committed to memory. I'm strictly acoustic, using Seagull and Taylor guitars with minimal electronics so my sound has been described as 'rustic' and 'folky' (Photo by Dori Swarbrick).
I like ballads and often take the liberty of converting more lively pop-rock tunes to that format. I cover a wide range of artists from reggae to classic country, rock and folk. I tailor each performance to my audience and encourage conversation and anecdotes about the songs/artists (Watercolor by Gerry Swarbrick).
